Is my mate infertile?

Me an my mate want to try for a baby but i need a lil help he had a condescending testicle at 12 the Doctor fixed it but he was told by his father that he may not be able to have kids. Last month i believe i had a chemical pregnancy but not sure had all the symptoms of early pregnancy but then had a weird period went to the doctors they couldn't find anything. So my question is could it be possible that he can have kids? or not an what are my chances I've got two of my own so i know im fertile but he smokes does that lessen the chance an also hes 30. This is the first time hes trying to have kids. We've been TTC really heavy for 2 months now help plez.
