Cinder blocks??

I am wanting to make fairly large planters out of cinder blocks. I was wondering where I can get some cheap cinder blocks without the holes in them and some with the holes in them. Also, does anyone have tips on how to succesfully make these? (such as making them less ugly, work out drainage problems etc.)
