Does Suntrust have to give me an account number?

THEY can't account for your payments without an account number. Therefore SOMEONE is lying about you not having one. If I were you, I would send a certified letter informing them you are formally disputing the EXISTENCE of the debt and they will not receive another penny until they provide a complete accounting of the ALLEGED debt. Include in the letter a statement that any negative information appearing on your credit report will result in a lawsuit against them for fraudulent reporting. If someone doesn't grow a brain, follow though on that promise. Note: from this point forward, keep DETAILED records of EVERY contact with these 'people'.
