Why do we want to meet celebrites?

Celebrities are real people, they're regular human beings just like ourselves. They don't have any super powers and they're not mutants, so why do we want to meet them so badly? They have regular lives and they work just like us, so why are they so important? Do we make them out to be better than they really are?
